Crawl Budget

Crawl budget is the number of pages Googlebot will crawl on your site within a set time window. Two factors control it: crawl rate limit, which is how fast your server can handle Googlebot’s requests, and crawl demand, which is how often Google wants to revisit your pages.

Most small and mid-size sites do not have a crawl budget problem. Where it becomes relevant is on large sites with thin pages, duplicate content, or URL parameters generating thousands of near-identical URLs. Googlebot wastes its allocated crawl on pages that add no ranking value, which means important pages get crawled less often or not at all.

The fix is not technical complexity. Noindex low-value pages, consolidate duplicates, block parameter URLs in robots.txt, and fix redirect chains. Those four actions free up crawl capacity for pages that actually matter.
